This is Halloween!

Good news, everyone! I have a piece up at the Meanwhile for their 'Nightmare on Wealthy Street' show, opening tomorrow evening. Stop by tomorrow to see all of the great work, and grab a drink or two with us artists. Below is my entry to the show:

Scry 16"x20" Pencil (and a bit of acrylic) on Mylar.

Spitting Image

I will be a part of the upcoming Spitting Image group show at the Meanwhile in Grand Rapids. Here is the piece I made for that show.

And framed up:

I do love me a glossy black frame.

Fae

I've always like Faerie, but the kinda evil sort. They are the most fun.

prismacolor pencil on mylar | 8x10 inches

A big thanks to fellow artist Cynthia Garcia for letting me mangle her appearance for it. The piece will be hung in the Hard Femme show at Con Artist Crew Gallery, opening August 10th. Check out the show for more amazing art by many of the Midwest's finest artists.

Gift

I've been to a few weddings this summer and have made a habit of giving typographic pieces as gifts. Some of my dear friends were wed this weekend, and this is what I crafted for them:

Prismacolor pencil and acrylic on Mylar.

GhostFist [wicked]

I am embarking on a large-ish scale venture with a friend of mine in which we will create and sell finely crafted and designed board games. Josh McVety is a masterful woodsmith, and will be fabricating the board themselves, and I will be designing graphics to be printed onto the boards; it should be sweet. We are going to do a pilot piece, so to speak,  of a Go board. I've begun the art that will be printed on the little fella; here's progress:

Sketchmoss

Here's a few choice cuts from the sketchbook that will be cleaned up and colored at a later date.

It was only after finishing the drawing of this dude I saw
during the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, that I realized
it is an aged Bert.

Art auctions.

Hi everyone,

I've started an 'official' Facebook page for my work. You can find it here.

One of the things I will be doing with the page, are bi-daily semi-daily auctions of a piece I make right before I post it. It is an excuse for me to make something quick and fun every couple of days, without any real direction, and perhaps make some money in the process. The first one sold for about ten bucks, so the art can be bought for far less than I would normally sell it. Assuming the bidding doesn't get crazy.

Anywho, the next piece up is this little fella, and the bidding will start at $10. The bidding will end Thursday morning at 3 AM, so jump on it:

8 x 10 inches, roughly.

hand-made cold press paper.

Landy Scapy

Sorry for the radio silence everyone, but between final grades, some super-secret projects, and (*gasp*) a bit of vacation time, I haven't had much to show these past couple of weeks. That said, I did do a bit of a landscape, but am still working the digital love (SOOOOO many masks). Here is the original drawing, I will post the final image upon it's completion (look for it later this week, if there is nothing by Friday, begin the angry mail).

Nyarlathotep revisited

I've decided I would tackle this fella digitally, since I haven't touched the oils version in so long (sorry Bill).

The Whitewood

Here's todays experiment:

I wanted to work within a very limited pallet, but still maintain interesting color relationships. It was a good time.

For the next post I may do a process breakdown, but don't hold me to it.

Thruk's Day Off

One of the things that I am finding most exciting about working digitally for a major chunk of these projects is the ability to experiment heavily with color and value with relative ease. Case in point is Thruk here; I would almost never work in this sort of pallet. I think it works though.

Thruk was thrilled to have a day away from the dungeon.

The Mycoplasm

Here's a little something I worked up in my down-time over the past couple days. I plan on painting it digitally; we'll see how it goes.

He's a cute fungal ooze from the greatest depths of the Underdark. He enjoys long crawls down the stalactites towards unsuspecting adventurers, asexual reproduction through both sporing and fission, and ladies, he's single! Let's have a round of applause for the Mycoplasm!

The Homelands Series

Here are the final framed pieces from the Legends of the Midwest show. The show itself went splendidly; it was a real honor to show with such a talented group of artists.

Enjoy!

The Woodland King

Here is the first of a trio of paintings for the upcoming Legends of the Midwest show as a part of Art Downtown. It finally broke me as far as acrylics are concerned. I am a convert now.

I also made frames for them. Stay tuned for the rest.
